The chosen exhibition spotlights the remarkable Fossil Collection at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, featuring an extensive array of fossils, including renowned specimens from British Columbia’s iconic Burgess Shale. The aim is to showcase the richness and significance of these fossils, enticing visitors to delve into the museum’s paleontological wonders.

The target audience encompasses diverse demographics, ranging from families with children to adults passionate about paleontology and natural history, and students as the museum has a special offer for them.

The choice of black and white color scheme with a touch of red creates a visually striking and sophisticated design. The dual-sided format, with one side being black and the other white, adds an element of contrast, capturing attention and aligning with the concept of showcasing the diversity in the Fossil Collection. Using Cinzel and Open Sans typefaces maintains readability, while the addition of red for titles provides a visual hierarchy and draws attention to key elements. The use of your own photographs adds a personal touch and authenticity to the brochure, reinforcing the museum’s commitment to its collection.

The format choice for the poster was informed by the design elements used in the front side of the brochure, aiming to create visual consistency across the museum’s promotional materials. The use of a black background, a photo of a fossil, and accents of red color tie the poster design to the brochure, ensuring a unified brand identity.

The choice of a light red background color likely provides a soft and subtle backdrop that complements the theme of the Fossil Collection. Breaking the photo of the fossil into four long rectangular pieces and interspersing them between texts adds visual interest and encourages readers to explore the ad further. The design solution for the magazine ad is focused on creating a visually captivating layout that highlights key information about the museum, the Fossil Collection, and the student offer.

All photographic imagery utilized in the design is original and captured by the designer. This ensures authenticity and allows for a personalized touch, enhancing the overall appeal of the promotional materials. Additionally, each photograph has been meticulously edited, with color adjustments made to infuse a subtle touch of red. This deliberate editing process ensures that the images are harmonized and seamlessly integrated with the overarching design concept, further enhancing visual cohesion and reinforcing the branding identity of the Fossil Collection exhibition.

The project was successful in creating visually engaging and informative promotional materials that effectively highlighted the significance and appeal of the Fossil Collection at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. For future projects, there are opportunities for further refinement and innovation. The importance of aligning design choices with branding guidelines and exhibition themes was reinforced, ensuring consistency and impact. The value of original photography and personalized editing became evident in creating a cohesive visual experience. Additionally, understanding the diverse interests of the target audience and tailoring promotional content accordingly contributed to the project’s success. These insights will inform future projects and contribute to ongoing growth and development in the field of promotional design.
